Blackbird

Synopsis

Lily (Susan Sarandon) is preparing for a weekend by the sea with her husband Paul (Sam Neill) and their visiting daughters Jennifer (Kate Winslet) and Anna (Mia Wasikowska). Lily’s aim: bringing the family together one last time before ending her life, after years of suffering a debilitating illness.

The couple are hoping for a lovely day, but the mood is clearly strained when their guests begin to arrive at their country home. Rebellious Anna has been out of contact with the family. As the weekend continues, old wounds come to the surface, driving some family members apart and others together. With both daughters increasingly conflicted about their mother’s plan, Lily’s hopes of a peaceful farewell appear to be under threat.
